About This Mission Grant
As Christians, we are charged with sharing the message of the Gospel and the Word with all individuals. The mission of Phil’s Friends, an LCMS Recognized Service Organization, is to introduce and strengthen relationships with Christ by providing faith-based hope to those with cancer. The support includes a care package with practical, emotional, and spiritual items, including a Bible, a card sent monthly for 12 months, and a new program “Hope on Call,” in which Phil’s Friends’ trained volunteers meet virtually with the cancer patient to talk and pray. This grant would further fund Phil’s Friends Cancer Care Packages, Cards of Hope, and Hope on Call.

Updates and Articles
During the Christmas season, Phil's Friends provides individuals who have to be in the hospital a special gift to know that they are loved. Last year Phil's Friends provided a teddy bear. During these visits, Phil's Friends volunteers have a chance to talk with the cancer patient and often times pray with them.
Care packages are colorfully decorated by our volunteers. They are sent anonymously from our Hope Center. They provide an emotional uplift when received by the person with cancer.

The care package contents have been carefully selected. The contents include practical (Biotene Gel, unscented lotion), comforting (Fleece blanket, hat and socks) and spiritual items (Bible and a letter that includes the Gospel message). The journal we provide allows the recipient to document their experience and how they have received support from God.
Phil's Friends volunteers make the no-sew fleece blankets. These blankets provide warmth and comfort to the recipient and home and when they are going through treatment. Phil's Friends gets so many responses about how much the cancer patient loves the blankets they receive in their Phil's Friends Care Package.
After the person with cancer receives their care package they receive a Card of Hope for 12 consecutive months. These cards are colorfully decorated and they contain a Bible verse and an uplifting message from our volunteer. This card allows the recipient to know that Phil's Friends and its volunteers are still thinking about them and praying for them.
The recipients of a care package receive so much joy from receiving the package. They know that a group of individuals who made the care package has just showed them unconditional love. By showing the unconditional love, it opens the door for Phil's Friends to share the Gospel
message and God's Word.
The care package comes in a Phil's Friends drawstring back. This bag is often used when the person makes trips to the hospital. They can bring the Bible they received in their care package along with the blanket and journal.
