About This Mission Grant
Hope Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, Nebraska, called Pastor Paul Flo to be the first full-time missionary pastor for Siouxland Lutheran Hispanic Ministry. He is a missionary pastor for LCMS churches in the Siouxland region which extends through the tri-state area of South Dakota, Nebraska, and Iowa. Pastor Flo collaborates with and trains local congregations to help meet the needs of the Hispanic people and share the Good News of Jesus. Siouxland Lutheran Hispanic Ministry is supported by local churches and at least two districts in their outreach to the Hispanic community.
This grant will give additional support for Siouxland Lutheran Hispanic Ministry outreach and will be used for English as a Second Language classes, citizenship classes, community outreach events, Spanish Bibles, catechisms, hymnals, and other resources, plus retreats, conventions, and special holiday meals.
Pastor Paul Flo was called, ordained, and installed in June 2019 as missionary pastor of Siouxland Lutheran Hispanic Ministry. Along with the Hispanic Ministry Committee of Hope Lutheran Church, Siouxland Lutheran Hispanic Ministry recently designed a new banner for to be shared at future conferences and retreats.

Meet some of Pastor Paul Flo's students who are all second generation Americans (their parents immigrated from Mexico). Here, they are participating in Lenten suppers as Hope Lutheran moves toward integrating their English-speaking Anglos and Latinos into one family of faith.
From left to right, meet Jackeline from Guatemala, Valia from Cuba, and Yessenia from Mexico. After two years of catechesis, they were confirmed in September of 2021. They are the newest members of Hope Lutheran.
The ESL (English as a Second Language) classes at Hope Lutheran have been a wonderful way to meet new Hispanic families in the community. In this photo, you see Shemilin from Guatemala, with her two children.
In this photo you see the newly elected leaders from the 7th National Hispanic Convention that took place in August 2022 in Orlando. Since the families we are working with are often the first Lutherans in their families, it is very encouraging for them to come together with 250-300 other Hispanics who share the same faith and convictions. The National Hispanic Convention happens once every three years.
