LWQ Fall 2019
Lutheran Woman’s Quarterly
Fall 2019 "The Next Step"
Editor's Note
At the recent Mobile LWML Convention, the LWQ staff enjoyed meeting our readers at the Quarterly’s 75th Anniversary display booth in the exhibit hall as well as during the Quarterly luncheon, where lively discussions sprung up around tables hosted by current and past editorial staff. A time for questions and answers followed.
We thought some of the discussion questions might be yours too.
One reader stated her pastor would not allow the women to use the Quarterly Bible studies because he thought they were not doctrinally reviewed. We would like to reassure everyone that all Quarterly Bible studies, devotions, and feature articles are doctrinally reviewed by the LCMS and must undergo a strict, double-blind doctrinal review process.
The doctrinal content of the LWQ is considered fully equal to what CPH publishes. In fact, one of the three Bible studies appearing in this issue happens to be reprint of a CPH publication; the CPH and LWQ materials sit side by side in this magazine, both having passed LCMS doctrinal review.
This next question has come up often: “Could the Quarterly offer short, 20-minute Bible studies that can be used as quick devotions for a group’s monthly meeting?” Maybe you’ve noticed each LWQ issue tries its best to offer Bible studies of three differing lengths: a longer, meatier study for those groups who meet primarily for Bible study and hold only the briefest business meeting; a shorter Bible study for those groups requiring more meeting time to do other things; and a third Bible study somewhere in the middle.
The best news is this! The LWML already offers an array of free, downloadable, 20-minute Bible studies. These can be found by going to lwml.org, scrolling all the way to the bottom of the home page, and clicking on the Bible Studies button.
By the way, for those groups who would like a short devotion to begin their time together, may I suggest using any of the one-page devotions found in each issue? Check out pages 1, 2, and 3 as well as the Young Women’s Page.
Do you have more questions? We welcome them! Take the next step and contact me at editor@lwml.org. I look forward to hearing from you.
