Fork in the Road

null A few phrases penned by an American poet came to mind as we prepared this issue of the Quarterly:

“Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler
… took the other, as just as fair”

Since 2000, this magazine has come into your homes and churches in two different formats: large, for the pre-convention magazine; small, for all the others.

Not too unlike the theme for this issue, your LWML leaders faced a “fork in the road” decision about the selection of a consistent format for the Lutheran
Woman’s Quarterly. Although the smaller version of LWQ was touted as fitting well inside a purse or a Bible, a full-size magazine would permit readers to enjoy larger print and allow our printer to use standard-size paper.

Some readers will rejoice at the new format; others will do their best to cope with the change. At the same time, the editorial staff will learn to adapt to new boundaries while keeping all the features of the Quarterly intact.

If the LWQ can no longer be hidden out-of-sight in my Bible or tucked away inside my purse, the magazine will fit where the rest of my magazines fit — out in the
open. And maybe that’s the point …

No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead he puts it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light (Luke 11:33).
