AUGUST 2018 FEATURED MISSION GRANT
2017–2019 Mission Grant 12 — $48,000 Completion of Lukonda Lutheran School Buildings, Uganda
Through the giving of your Mite Box offerings, this grant will complete Phase II of construction of two schools in Kayunga District, Uganda. Between 100–200 children, ages 4–12, will be educated in these schools. The villages of Kakiika and Lukonda will provide bricks and land for the school, with Resurrection Lutheran Church and The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Southeastern District supporting the remaining costs of labor and materials. When complete, each of the two school buildings will have four classrooms. Two of the classrooms in one building will also be used for weekly Lutheran worship services. This grant will enable completion of the school building complex begun in 2012.

2018 LWML SUNDAY
Need a break from this busy life and always wondering what might happen next? Then take a look at the 2018 LWML Sunday materials authored by Rev. Ken Hennings, LCMS Texas District Past President. The theme, “Our Rest in a Changing World,” from Psalm 62:1–8 will take you through worship to the sermon titled “The Rest We Share” giving pause and insight in seeking that rest.
The first Sunday in October is traditionally set aside for the observation of LWML Sunday, but it may be celebrated at any time. A full worship service is available for download. As many pastors prefer to tailor their services to their congregation’s needs, the sermon, litany and children’s sermon can also be downloaded separately and may be inserted in any worship service wherever needed.

ASSEMBLY OF LEADERS
Every four years, the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League sponsors a leadership training event to promote effective leadership skills, better communication, and a thorough awareness of our mission and vision. From November 7-10, 2018 the LWML Assembly of Leaders will gather in St. Louis, Mo., under the theme, “Follow the Leader,” based upon the scripture verse, What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me - practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you (Philippians 4:9).
At this year’s event, up to four mission minded participants from each of the 40 LWML districts will look to Jesus and take the information and excitement of how God works through the LWML back to everyone in their districts. For the first time, the LWML has invited pastoral counselors to participate. All participants are required to commit to share the training in their districts and zones. President Patti shares, “God has blessed each of us with gifts so that we may be a blessing to others, to His glory. I look forward to these women and counselors coming together to be equipped and encouraged to serve with confidence in their LWML districts.”
General sessions offer Bible studies, relevant guest speakers, and comprehensive instruction for our organization. Linda Reiser, LWML Past President, will inspire participants to share the mission of LWML and also lead a session on podium protocol. John Reeb, from Colorado Leadership Institute, will take participants through activities that allow them to embrace change and work with different cultures and generations. LWML President Patti Ross will share how each woman can encourage others to have a mission heart and boldly serve the Lord with gladness. Breakout sessions include training in technology, leadership techniques, finding and using LWML resources, mission grant selection and distribution, engaging and retaining volunteers, reaching other cultures and generations, sharing Jesus in our communities, and basic protocol and structure.
