LWML OFFICE MOVING
The LWML office is moving to Concordia Seminary St. Louis campus (CSL) this fall. After years of renting at Concordia Publishing House (CPH) 3558 S. Jefferson, we are moving to CSL campus. CPH has been a super landlord for LWML, and we thank them for that business relationship, friendship, and Gospel partnership. They will continue to warehouse our resources and products and to fulfill orders. Loeber Hall, which is directly across from the Chapel to the south, will become the new home of the LWML office with a move in date for late September upon completion of renovations to the lower level.
LWML President Patti Ross stated, “This first came about as a result of the Rose Parade in Pasadena, 2017. I had the honor of representing LWML riding on the Lutheran Hour Ministries Rose Parade float. I got to ride next to Rev. Dr. Dale Meyer, President of CSL. It was very much on my heart as to how we can make our pastors coming out of seminary more knowledgeable about and supportive of the mission of LWML. I asked him how we could have a bigger presence on campus and he responded, ‘Why don’t you move your offices to the seminary campus?’ Well, I thought, why not?” Having a presence on campus will put LWML visibly in their environment. It will allow our office staff to attend chapel, eat in the cafeteria, and visit with students and their families. When new LWML resources become available, they can be readily accessed. Although our staff is small—currently three full-time and one part-time, they represent the best of LWML. They are friendly, open, knowledgeable, hard-working, and love the Lord. They will be an asset to those on campus.
“We praise and thank God for a faithful steward who years ago, left in their estate, two U.S. Savings Bonds for LWML. The amount of the savings bonds will cover expenses involved in the move. We have been blessed by the gift of that donor and for the generosity and support given by CSL,” proclaimed President Patti.
2018 NATIONAL HISPANIC CONVENTION
(Pictured L to R) Rev. Juan Zamora, Deaconess Alma Zamora, Angelina Jauregui, and Melissa Salomon.
LWML Vice President of Gospel Outreach Angelina Jauregui and LWML Heart to Heart (H2H) Sisters Committee Chairman Melissa Salomon reported that it was an honor to represent LWML at the sixth National Hispanic Convention in Houston, Texas on July 24–27, 2018.
Under the convention theme of 4K (Kyrios, Kerygma, Koinonia, Kairos)—Discipleship: Walking Together with Christ, presentations were given by Rev. Dr. Leopoldo Sanchez, Systemics professor at Concordia Seminary St. Louis and Director of the Center for Hispanic Studies; Rev. Dr. Carlos Sosa Siliezar, Lutheran theologian from Guatemala and professor of Biblical studies at Wheaton College; LCMS Texas District Second Vice President Rev. Eloy Gonzalez; and Angelina and Melissa who presented two “What is the LWML” workshops to 41 participants. These informational workshops emphasized the intentional and committed effort of LWML to invite and welcome active participation of LCMS multicultural women. Eight LWML H2H sisters were in attendance including Lucia Novelli, wife of the newly elected president of the next convention, Rev. German Novelli from Milwaukee, WI. The next convention will occur in 2021.
LUTHERAN HOUR MINISTRIES SENT EVENT
Lovely Lutheran Women in Mission (pictured L to R)
LWML Past Presidents Linda Reiser, Virginia Von Seggern, and Jan Wendorf with LWML President Patti Ross.
LWML President Patti Ross attended the Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM) SENT event in Milwaukee, WI, August 3–5, 2018. Others in attendance included members of the Lutheran Layman’s League, LHM staff, donors, and guests who kicked off a five-year global initiative to proclaim the Gospel. This special initiative, entitled SENT, is based on John 20:21, Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” President and CEO of Lutheran Hour Ministries Kurt Buchholz led a gathering that interacted with LHM ministry leaders who traveled from Liberia, Jamaica, Lebanon, Sri Lanka, and Paraguay. LHM staff presented information about media-ministries including new podcasts, online daily devotions, and of course The Lutheran Hour. Participants of this event enjoyed these informative sessions along with inspiring devotions and worship.
Through the giving of your mite offerings, LWML has funded two mission grants elected at the last two LWML conventions for LHM. During the LHM SENT event, reporting on the first LWML mission grant given for outreach to Syrian refugees in Lebanon, were four women who shared what it now meant to them to be Christian. The second LWML mission grant will help broadcast the Gospel throughout the Middle East via the Christian TV station in Cairo, Egypt.
The LWML is the leading group for LCMS women where each woman is welcomed and encouraged to use her unique God-given gifts as she supports global missions and serves the Lord with gladness.
