LWML District Convention Prayers

Please join in prayer for our LWML sisters in Christ from the New Jersey District as they gather together on August 29 for a virtual convention under the theme “Living Water.”

We thank You, Lord, for the gift of technology so our New Jersey sisters may meet together and learn of their district’s new officers, mission goal, mission grants, and bylaw changes. They will miss the fellowship and personal interactions of an in-person convention, but we ask You to grant them encouragement and inspiration through Bible study, mission speakers, and their virtual mission walk.

Let us say a prayer of thanksgiving for Susan Harnos, LWML New Jersey District President, as she presides over her first district convention.

Lord, hear our prayers. Amen.

Serving joyfully,
President Debbie

LWML North Dakota District Election Results

Women and men of the LWML North Dakota District originally planned to gather in Fargo, North Dakota, June 26–27, 2020, to celebrate the theme, “Great is the Lord!,” based on Psalm 145:1–3: I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever, Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever. Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable. They decided to not hold the June convention, but they did vote by paper ballot. Congratulations to LaurieAnn Totenhagen, from Stirum, North Dakota, who was elected as the new district president, and to Rev. Chris Waldvogel, Fargo, who was elected junior pastoral counselor. A mission goal of $154,000 was adopted, along with nine mission grants.

LWML Utah-Idaho District Holds Virtual Convention

Women and men of the LWML Utah-Idaho District originally planned to gather in Boise, Idaho, April 24–26, to celebrate the theme “Lift Up Your Eyes,” based on John 4:35b: Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. The convention was postponed to August 15, 2020 and converted to a virtual meeting. President Lois Anderson opened her first district convention with nearly 42 LWML groups meeting virtually to listen to two mission speakers: Dr. Nancy Almodovar, who, along with her husband, became Lutherans after watching “Worship Anew;” and Ms. Deya Reed, who gave a wonderful testimony of how she and her husband were led to the Lutheran church after hearing broadcasts of the Lutheran Hour. District members donated eyeglasses and diapers in advance of the meeting. By convention day, they had collected 276 pairs of eyeglasses and 2,974 diapers! Gifts went to Women’s and Children’s Alliance. A mission goal of $76,200 was chosen, along with nine mission grants. Rev. Garen Pay, Idaho Falls, was elected as the new junior pastoral counselor.

Pastor John Carrier and members of Camp Restore Detroit receive the first check for 2019-2021 Mission Grant #7

Restoring Hope for Detroit Children and Families, one of this biennium’s current mission grants, received a partial payment of $50,000 to replace the roofs on two of the houses now used as community outreach centers. Camp Restore Detroit provides a safe, nurturing Christ-centered facility for children, families, and adults. Children come to learn about God’s love as they participate in art, theater, and music classes, while receiving homework help and assistance with basic educational and developmental skills. Additionally, adults are offered parenting, finance, and resumé–building classes. They request that we continue to keep their renovation, ministry, and outreach work in our prayers. Read more here.

September to Remember — LWML’s Giving Tuesday

September to Remember: LWML GivingTuesday has a new date. Give to the Mission Goal on Sept. 15, 2020.

This year, LWML will celebrate GivingTuesday on September 15. Anyone may remember or honor loved ones, mentors, LWML sisters, or pastoral counselors — someone who kindled their love for doing the Lord’s kingdom work. On the LWML website beginning September 1 and culminating on September 15, there will be articles from women and pastors telling their stories of special people who influenced and encouraged, guided and inspired, and cheered them along on their LWML journey. For resources to promote GivingTuesday in your local group or congregation, go to the GivingTuesday page on the website by clicking here.
