This has been a September to Remember!
LWML thanks God for everyone who participated in our 2020 September to Remember (GivingTuesday) challenge. At the end of the challenge on September 15, $85,985.74 had been donated to support the 2019-2021 LWML Mission Goal. But the amount continues to grow as donations have been flooding the mailbox at the LWML Office.
Because of the Holy Spirit working in you, funds have been given for mission work, that by the grace of God will share Jesus' love at home and around the world!
This means LWML, through your generous gifts, has greatly exceeded the matching amount of $10,000 made possible by a generous family.
Donations to Date: $90,726.48
Matching Gift: $10,000.00
Grand Total: $100,726.48
Thank God, and thank you for making this a September to Remember!
LWML District Convention Prayers
Please pray for our LWML sisters in Christ from the Chesapeake, Florida-Georgia, Washington-Alaska, and the Southern Illinois Districts who will be joining together in virtual conventions this weekend. These are the last of the LWML conventions for 2020.
We thank You once again, Lord, for the gift of technology as our LWML sisters meet together for Bible study, news from the mission field, and district business. As participants learn of their district’s new officers, mission goal, mission grants, and bylaw changes let them praise Your name. We ask You to grant them encouragement and inspiration through Bible study, mission speakers, and this time together.
Thank You for Trish Aamoth as she comes to the end of her four years of service as the Florida-Georgia District President. We also remember in prayer, Teresa Tester (Chesapeake District), Diane Grebing (Southern Illinois District), and Marilee Ryan (Washington-Alaska District) as they preside over their first conventions as LWML District Presidents.
Lord, hear our prayers.
Serving Joyfully,
President Debbie
LWML Nebraska South District Convention Held
Women and men of the LWML Nebraska South District originally planned to gather in Kearney, Nebraska, September 18-20, to celebrate the theme, “2020 Vision for All!,” based on Luke 2:29-32: “Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.”. They decided to not hold the convention in-person, but virtually on September 19, 2020, led by outgoing President Katy Gifford. Congratulations to Sherry Burger, from Davenport, who was elected as the new district president, and to Rev. Shawn Kitzing, Staplehurst, who was elected as junior pastoral counselor. A mission goal of $105,000 was adopted, along with 15 mission grants.
LWML Carolinas District Convention Held
The LWML Carolinas District was scheduled to hold their district convention on September 18-19, 2020, with the theme “Celebrating Life as the Handiwork of God,” based on Isaiah 46:3-4: Listen to me, O house of Jacob, all the remnant of the house of Israel, who have been borne by me from your birth, carried from the womb; even to your old age I am he, and to gray hairs will carry you. I have made , and I will bear, I will carry and will save. They held a two hour virtual convention on Saturday, September 19. The district elected Rev. Patrick O’Neal, Resurrection Lutheran Church, Franklin, North Carolina, as the new pastoral counselor. Highlights from the convention included a Bible study authored by Rev. Jason Holden, Carbondale, Illinois, a report by LWML President Debbie Larson, and an approved mission goal of $67,000.
Connecting During Covid-19
Over the last few months, we have learned to be creative in how we work, worship, and go to school. Now it is time to be inventive as we connect with our LWML sisters in the Word and by how we serve others and collect our mite offering donations. The Growth and Development Committee has started a list of tips and ideas to help you and your group stay connected and serve the Lord with gladness. Check out the Group Resources webpage and be sure to share ways your group has been connecting during COVID-19. Email your tips, ideas, and pictures to the Vice President of Organizational Resources here.
New Facebook Live Bible Study Begins on October 6
Donna Snow and LWML are once again partnering in a live Bible study on Facebook during October and November. Join your LWML friends from around the world as Donna leads us through Your Strong Suit, based on Ephesians 6:10–18, every Tuesday at 8 p.m. Central Time beginning October 6, 2020.
This eight-week, verse-by-verse study of the armor of God details the incredible protection God has provided to His children. Even though we may not like discussing spiritual warfare, it is necessary because it is real. Spiritual warfare has the potential to rob us of our peace and security only to leave behind doubt and unrest. But God offers protection to us — HIS protection. Journey through this study as we learn about the battle, our enemy, our armor, and our place in God's army. But most importantly, we come to know the rock-solid truth that God has provided everything we need to proclaim ultimate victory.
LWML President Debbie Larson, Vice President of Christian Life Susan Brunkow, and our Pastoral Counselors, Rev. Mitchell Schuessler and Rev. Brian Noack, will be on Facebook also, answering questions and taking prayer requests in the comments. The study guide is now available through the LWML store at Your Strong Suit.
