LWML President Larson to Lead Session at
“Making Disciples for Life” Conference

Our ‘New’ Normal” is the title for the LCMS “Making Disciples for Life” virtual gathering, scheduled for Monday, January 11, 2021, through Thursday, January 14, 2021. Amid global pandemic, political unrest, and changing demographics, this gathering will ask the question, “What does all this mean for the church?” President Larson will speak on January 13, sharing how the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) is meeting the challenges of continuing ministry during COVID-19.

This virtual gathering is an opportunity for laypeople, pastors, and church workers to discuss what is different and what is the same as we confess to the world the certainty found in the Gospel of Christ Jesus. The LWML will have prerecorded sections intermixed with the question and answer sessions. The gathering will feature live conference sessions nightly from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. (Central Standard Time). Prerecorded sessions will be available for viewing at your convenience. Register for the conference here

Soup Supper Goes Ahead With Creative Planning

Many LWML groups sponsor a yearly meal or activity to raise funds for mission projects. COVID-19 restrictions have changed the ability to host a meal or activity this year. The LWML women at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, were creative. They held their annual soup and pie supper on November 1, but, due to COVID-19, it looked a little different this year — they did curbside pickups. Orders were taken for choices of soup and pie, along with a pulled pork sandwich. Twelve members of the junior/senior youth group and their parents helped prepare and deliver the meals curbside. The group served 102 bowls of soup and raised $988 for “Dayspring,” an ongoing project to develop a plot of land on the church property which will include community gardens and a picnic shelter.

Before you cancel your events because you cannot do them the way you always have, think outside the box and see if there is another way to do it. Consider having your group do a similar soup supper event on Super Bowl Sunday this February for a fun Souper Bowl event!
