2021 LWML Convention Virtual Photo Finish Mission Walk

A new opportunity for participants of the 39th Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) Convention is a virtual Photo Finish Mission Walk. If you are not able to attend the convention, you still have an opportunity to participate by organizing a mission pledge walk in your neighborhood or at your church. Any member or group can do this at any time up to June 4, 2021. What a great way to be a part of the convention and donate to the new LWML Mission Goal. Information on how to share your mission walk photos and send your pledges will be posted to the website in April.

Livestreaming in Lexington

The LWML will, once again, livestream all convention sessions in the Rupp arena. For those watching the convention at home, make plans to have a livestreaming party and invite the women in your congregation to watch it together. You will be able to participate in the convention’s Bible study, hear the grateful and inspiring mission grant speakers, and be there when the new biennium’s mission goal and mission grants are announced. Watch for information and directions coming soon to the LWML website.

“Unlikely Servants” Podcasts

Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) On The Go Podcasts began a new devotional series called “Unlikely Servants” by Lou Garchow last Wednesday. These podcasts will look at nine women who were encumbered by something in their lives which might seem to have made them unworthy to serve a Holy God. However, these women loved and forgiven, were chosen by the Lord to fulfill a specific purpose for Him. These podcasts will encourage each of us to dedicate our lives and work to the Lord despite our shortcomings.

Over these next nine weeks, join with women and men around the world as we share how God worked in the lives of Ruth, encumbered by her background; the Samaritan Woman, encumbered by her lifestyle; Hannah, encumbered by poor personal relationships; Eve, encumbered by doubt and pride; Sarah, encumbered by anger and impatience; Rebekah, encumbered by showing favoritism within the family; Esther, encumbered by age/ethnic background; Miriam, encumbered by jealousy; and Martha, encumbered by worry.

Podcasts are available at www.lwml.orgbut many women find it easiest to listen to them on their smartphone through the LWML app. The LWML app is free; instructions are here or through the App Store on your phone.

Podcasts are flexible, so tune in anytime that fits your schedule. Join host Rebecca Futty as we learn just how much we are like many of these other “Unlikely Servants.”

Seminary Student Thank-you Notes

Each spring the LWML hosts a dinner at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri for the second-year students as they prepare to go on vicarage. The LWML provides gift bags with LWML resources such as devotions, notepads, pens, brochures, bookmarks, and a gift card for CPH. After the dinner, there is a short PowerPoint presentation sharing the mission of the LWML and specifically about LWML’s work for, and with, church workers. Many of the local LWML leaders attend, in addition to President Debbie Larson, Deaconess Betty Knapp, and Public Relations Director Susan Donnelly. This gives the students an opportunity to ask questions and share their experiences. Due to COVID-19, this year LWML was not able to host the dinners but did send gift bags to both seminaries.

Many thank-you notes from the students have been received, including a $50 donation. One deaconess student wrote, “Thank you so much for the LWML gift for us second-year students! I really appreciated the presentation that Dr. Nielsen showed us about the different opportunities that LWML can bring to us as seminarians and in our future ministry contexts! I've had experience with LWML in previous congregations, but it was very nice to get a fuller perspective on all the different things LWML does throughout the US. I'm thankful for the LWML as an auxiliary of the LCMS and its assistance to our ministry as church workers, and I look forward to doing our best to assist the ministry of the LWML in my ministry contexts.”

Another student wrote, “Thank you for all that you do and for all of the support that you offer to Concordia Seminary students.  We could not do this without you.”

The LWML considers it an honor to work with you and support the students of our seminaries!
