MITES IN ACTION SPEAKERS in Lexington

The inspiring messages from our Mites in Action speakers are the highlight of every convention. This year is no exception. Lorene King will speak on Mission Grant #15 (2017–2019), Sharing Jesus with People with Disabilities, Bethesda Lutheran Communities. King serves as Vice President of Philanthropy at Bethesda. She will update the LWML on the opportunities provided by the mission grant Bethesda received and positive changes in the lives of adults with developmental disabilities. 

Mites in Action speaker for another 2017–2019 mission grant will be Rev. John Carrier for Mission Grant #7, Restoring Hope for Detroit Children and Families. Serving as executive director at Camp Restore Detroit, Rev. Carrier guides the outreach projects of Detroit churches, civic organizations, and individuals. The mission of Camp Restore Detroit is to bring Jeremiah’s message of having plans and hope for a future to the people. Rev. Carrier will tell convention attendees what God has done in Detroit.

Mark Senechal — New Song Leader in Lexington

Due to a conflict in schedules, Dina Vendetti cannot serve as song leader at our Lexington convention. Dina enthusiastically recommended Mark Senechal, who serves as director of worship at Christ Memorial Lutheran Church in St. Louis, Missouri. Mark has also served as a guest worship leader for chapel services on the Concordia Seminary, St. Louis campus. District Caucuses in Lexington

District caucuses will be held from 3:45–6:20 p.m. on Thursday, June 24. There will be no district photos or choir due to restrictions on social distancing. The Winner’s Circle Celebration is scheduled for 7:00–8:30 p.m. on Friday, June 25. Come and shop till you drop at the Purple Rose Store in the exhibit hall, which will be open from 9 a.m.–6 p.m. on Thursday. More information will come in future issues of eNews.

Flyer Now Available for “I am the Heart of LWML”

The “Heart” task force has been busy creating products for the “I am the Heart of LWML” campaign. Posted this week on the LWML website is the “I am the Heart of LWML” flyer in three forms — letter size, legal size, and a two-per-page form for bulletin inserts. At the upcoming LWML convention, buttons and stickers will be available in the store. For district and zone events, consider using the PowerPoint presentation for your group. It describes this inspirational campaign, encouraging the members to discover ways to show that they “are the Heart of LWML.” 

Concordia Seminary, St. Louis Students Prepare for Call Day 2021

Call Day comes with much anticipation as students from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis prepare to continue down the path God has laid before them. On Wednesday, April 28, 2021, students will receive their first pastoral or diaconal ministry placements, and second-year students will receive their vicarage or internship placements in a ceremony held in the Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus.

Rev. Michael Lange, president of the LCMS California-Nevada-Hawaii District, will lead the service for students who are preparing to serve a year as vicars or deaconess interns. These students will receive their assignments at a worship service starting at 3 p.m. Seminary President Dr. Thomas J. Egger will lead the next call service at 7 p.m. At this service, candidates for the pastoral and diaconal ministry will receive their first calls to serve as pastors, deaconesses, chaplains, and missionaries in the LCMS.

National Deaf History Month

March 13 through April 15 is National Deaf History Month, observed to commemorate the achievements of people who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing. The time frame is spread across March and April in recognition of Deaf education history dating back to 1817 when America’s first public school for the deaf was opened. The observation concludes with National American Sign Language Day (ASL) on April 15, culminating the celebration of American Sign Language. If you would like to learn simple ASL signs, click on this short video. Using these simple signs would be a wonderful way to welcome and include our Deaf sisters. Lutheran Women in Mission — The Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) is an official auxiliary of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. Since 1942, the LWML has focused on affirming each woman's relationship with Christ, encouraging and equipping women to live out their Christian lives in active mission ministries, and to support global missions.

The LWML is the leading group for LCMS women where each woman is welcomed and encouraged to use her unique God-given gifts as she supports global missions and serves the Lord with gladness.
