Lutheran Women’s Missionary League
2021 Convention
Lexington, Kentucky
June 24–27
Bible Study Leader Heidi Goehmann
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God (Hebrews 12:1–2).
Leading us through our Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) 2021 Convention Scripture will be Deaconess Heidi Goehmann. She is a licensed clinical social worker and mental health care provider, deaconess, writer, speaker, wife, mom, and advocate. Her website opens with “writings on mental health, relationships, and hope.” Heidi’s work of helping to restore broken lives is centered on the hope that comes from God’s promises. She has written 10 books and/or studies, all incorporating her faith into her vocation. Her Bible studies at the convention are on Friday and Saturday, June 25 and 26. If you are unable to attend, you can participate via live-stream.
Mission Walk — Photo Finish or Virtual
The convention’s Photo Finish Mission Walk will take place from 4:40–5:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 26. Pledge forms are now available on the website for each walker to request pledges from friends and relatives. Bring checks, made payable to LWML, and write “Mission Walk” on the memo line. The walk will follow the route along Main Street down to Thoroughbred Park and back the same way or along Vine Street, which parallels the route. The route is approximately a mile long each way. Be sure to take pictures in the park with the twelve bronze horse statues, including the nineteenth century’s greatest thoroughbred stallion, whose name is “Lexington.”
If you are unable to attend the convention but would like to be a part of the Mission Walk, you are invited to join in with a Virtual Photo Finish Mission Walk. Take your walk anywhere — around your neighborhood, your church, or in a park. Gather your LWML group together or walk individually. Publicize the walk in your church bulletin, and make it a whole congregation event as you walk to support LWML missions.
Take the opportunity to share photos of your walk and send in your mission dollars, starting now. On the convention website, you will find the link to the “Virtual Photo Finish Mission Walk” Submission Form. If you email your photo by June 4, 2021, your photo may be displayed on the screen at the 2021 LWML Convention in Lexington, Kentucky. Any pledges received by this date will be added to the Photo Finish Mission Walk amount announced at the convention. All photos submitted by June 30, 2021, will be part of the virtual Photo Finish Mission Walk video which will be available on the website in the fall. All donations will support LWML Mission Grants for the 2021–2023 biennium.
