Winner’s Circle Celebration

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) Mission Grants Committee extended invitations to the 2019–2021 LWML mission grant recipients to be in attendance at the 39th Biennial LWML Convention in Lexington. Those recipients will be featured guests at the Mission Grants Booth “Meet and Greet” Winner’s Circle Event on Friday evening, June 25, from 7–8:30 p.m.

The “Meet and Greet” events will afford everyone the opportunity to hear how LWML Mission Grants are impacting these ministries. The representatives will be available in 30-minute increments during the times listed below at the LWML Mission Grants Booth in the Bluegrass Meadows Exhibit Hall. 

With the LWML convention theme of “Running the Race … Looking to Jesus,” and the Scripture verse of Hebrews 12:1–2, the LWML Mission Grants Booth theme naturally flows with “Continuing to Run the Race through Missions.” LWML has been running this race since 1942. As we continue to serve the Lord through offerings and prayers for mission grant recipients, we love hearing how our current mission grant monies and the recipients are serving Him.

Whova App

Ready to attend the LWML convention? LWML will use an online platform called “Whova” for our convention. You can download Whova’s mobile app or access its web platform on desktop: 

• View our event agenda and plan your schedule;
• Set up in-person/virtual meet-ups with other attendees to connect and network;
• Create and converse through various discussion topics in the community board; and
• Receive updates such as last-minute session changes from the organizers.

After downloading, sign up in the app, using your email address. Choose a strong password. You can also sign up using a social media account. Once you’re signed up, you should be taken directly to our event!

New Bible Study: “For Such a Time as This”

Esther went from living as an orphan to reigning as a queen. Joseph went from a being a slave to becoming second only to the King in all the land of Egypt. They both had ups and downs in their lives. This is typical of our lives as well.  God has a plan for each of us, which eventually unfolds in His time and manner. His plans and purposes surface at exactly the right time.

Esther and Joseph were just two of many biblical characters who had things happen in their earlier lives that prepared them for the special purposes God had planned for them. This Bible study looks at Esther’s story, Joseph’s story, and then offers the opportunity to reflect on our own personal stories and consider how events in our lives have prepared us for the plan and purpose God has for us.

Planes, Trains, or Bicycles?

How are you traveling to Lexington? Most attendees will be driving or flying. But one woman is riding her bicycle from Gaylord, Michigan, to Lexington, Kentucky! Carla Elenz, President of the LWML Michigan District’s Land of Lakes Zone, will be riding a distance of approximately 550 miles. 

Carla, an experienced long-distance bicycle rider, expects it to take 11 days of riding, averaging 50 miles per day. She will be staying with LWML women along the way, and her daughter from Ohio will be within driving distance to help if necessary. “Miles for Mites” is her slogan, as she is asking for pledges to LWML mites for each mile or day of her journey. All donations will go to mites. Meet Carla at the convention in Lexington, Kentucky, June 24–27, 2021. 

Lutheran Women in Mission — The Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) is an official auxiliary of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. Since 1942, the LWML has focused on affirming each woman's relationship with Christ, encouraging and equipping women to live out their Christian lives in active mission ministries, and to support global missions.

The LWML is the leading group for LCMS women where each woman is welcomed and encouraged to use her unique God-given gifts as she supports global missions and serves the Lord with gladness.
