LWML Board of Directors Gears up for Biennium

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) Board of Directors (BOD) met in St. Louis, Missouri, from August 16–21, 2021, to choose new committees for the 2021–2023 biennium, brainstorm and revise the strategic plan, and carry out the business of the organization. It proved to be a busy and productive week. A news article will be coming soon, announcing all appointed committees and members.

In addition to the LWML BOD, the Finance and Operations Committee and the Investment Committee met with LWML auditors Anders CPAs + Advisors.  These committees also met with the LCMS Foundation to review LWML investments.

These volunteers on the BOD and on the financial committees share their expertise and time because they have a heart for missions and love serving their Savior. LWML thanks each of them for all they do and the leadership thanks each woman of the LCMS for their prayers and for their service.

Did your summer vacation take you to the mountains? Do you dream of traveling and perhaps visiting some of the mountain tops where Jesus walked?

Sharing stories of his work as an LCMS missionary, author Rev. Robert Selle serves as a guide for seven journeys with Jesus in the Bible study, “Mountain Top Journeys with Jesus.”

This Bible study aims to share the history and geography of Jesus’ travels, and to remember and celebrate His unconditional love for us. When you ascend to such mountain heights, the view is fantastic! With that expansive overview, it is easier to put things into the proper perspective. Sometimes we get so caught up in the “busyness” of our daily lives that we have trouble setting priorities. This study will help you stand back, look at the big picture, and remember what is truly important in your life. Mountain Top Journeys with Jesus is available at lwml.org.

Convention Donations Update

LWML continues to update the offering totals from the 39th LWML Biennial Convention in Lexington, Kentucky. Thanks to all for the donations to Gifts from the Heart. Also received were 444 gift cards for Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri, and Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Many of the gift cards had no dollar amounts listed, but were estimated to total over $33,000. They were divided between the two LCMS Seminaries. Please note as donations of gift cards are collected at LWML events, it is most helpful if they are marked with their dollar amount.

  • Assurance For Life Ministry: $2,044.50
  • CSL Food Bank: $2,632.50
  • CTSFW Food & Clothing Co-op: $2,187.50
  • MOST Ministries: $1,727.50
  • Grand Total: $8,592

The four convention offerings were designated to various ministries; the first offering always goes toward the new biennium’s mission goal. The updated amounts are listed below:

  • Offering #1 (all funds collected to date): 2021–2023 Mission Goal
         $45,403.22
  • Offering #2 (all funds collected to date): King’s Community Outreach in Fort Wayne, Indiana
         $28,778.14
  • Offering #3: Gifts for All God’s Children’s Connecting Kids to Christ Center in Detroit, Michigan
         $29,546.66
  • Offering #4: POBLO International Ministries in Clinton Township, Michigan
         $28,499.61

The final proceeds have been tallied for the golf outing and the mission pledge walk. The first event of the convention, the Sixth Biennial Tee Up 4 Mites Charity Golf Outing, raised $25,216. The Photo Finish Mission Pledge Walk raised a grand total of $109,592. Thanks to all who participated in Lexington and virtually! The true winners of these events are our mission grant recipients blessed with these funds to share the Gospel with those in need. We pray that God would work through them to His glory!

Seminary Students Thank LWML

Every spring the LWML hosts a dinner for the pre-vicarage and intern students at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, and Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana. With the onset of COVID, neither dinner was held this past year, but the LWML sent gift bags filled with LWML information, including a brochure about LWML’s Church Workers in Mission Committee. Also included were a $25 gift card to Concordia Publishing House (CPH), where the students can buy books and materials for their studies. Many students sent us thank you notes; one note, in particular, caught my attention. It reads:

Wonderful and blessed greetings from me and my family in Fort Wayne, Indiana! What a blessing your organization is to us seminary students. Your prayers, your gifts, your love — all these bestowed upon us without expecting anything in return. From the goodness of your hearts, you grace us with these good things. We thank our Lord and Savior for His graciousness through the LWML! One of these days, I would love to speak to your organization to share first-hand how much the LWML means to the seminary community. May God bless you all.

Sincerely,
Aaron and my family: Katie, Canon, Ben, Sam and Auggie
