Ideas for Increasing Awareness of LWML
(STARTING WITH THE VERY YOUNG!)
Lutheran School Involvement — Ask to speak at the school chapel service. Show the current mission grants and explain how Mite Box offerings are funded and have helped people all over the world. Hand out Mite Boxes and ask the children to share what they have learned with their parents. Make sure to plan ahead by contacting school administration in the summer to help in their planning. You can also contact a local called teacher to see how you can bless his or her classroom.
Scouting Groups — This group is always looking for service projects. Encourage your LWML group to invite these young people to participate alongside your LWML volunteers with various projects.
Confirmation Students — Have a prayer partner exchange (beginning with their first class session and ending on Confirmation Sunday). Check out the LWML store for gifts and devotions. Provide snacks for a study break during the confirmation sessions or provide a breakfast or luncheon the Saturday before Confirmation.
High School Students — Connect with them at a youth group meeting. Talk about local projects the LWML supports. Give out Mite Boxes, Bible Coloring Resources, and other LWML resources. Encourage them to journal about their faith — by writing in their Bible, reading thought-provoking devotions, or using art available on the LWML website. Consider giving high school graduates a gift from the LWML store.
College Students — Send care packages filled with snack foods for study breaks. Provide Bible bookmarks, devotions, and notes of encouragement and prayer. In your note, include the contact information for the LCMS church that is closest to their college campus. The care packages can be assembled as a servant project at a group meeting.
Brides — Send a card of congratulations with a wrapped Mustard Seed Devotion or Together is Better — Marriage Devotions and Activities devotion booklet as a small gift.
New Parents — Send a gift card for a local restaurant from your LWML group along with a devotion or Mustard Seed Devotion. Ask the family what needs they have. Let them know you are praying for them. You can also stop by with coffee! Consider how your group can be present for them in this new stage of life. A gift suggestion is the booklet Dear Mother — Devotions for New Mothers.
Women of Your Church — Who in your congregation isn’t involved with the LWML? Get to know her and invite her to attend a Bible study or servant event with you. If she doesn’t attend after you first ask, keep inviting her. Pray for her future involvement.
New Member — Welcome her to the congregation. Verbally invite her to an LWML event. Through a personally written message, make LWML information available to her that explains mission grants, mite offerings, service activities, and opportunities to study God’s Word.
