I recently became president of my local group. I don’t have a ton of experience and most of the women currently involved in my group are new to the organization too! Do you have any resources that can help me navigate my new role in leadership?
Nervous Nancy
Dear Nervous Nancy,
Thank you for taking on this important position in your local group and continuing the fellowship, service, and study that it is provided for your members. As always, start with going to the Lord in prayer.
There are multiple leadership tools on the Leadership Development page on the LWML website: www.lwml.org/developing-leaders. I particularly recommend the leader chats to allow multiple perspectives on leadership and the different avenues each person has taken. These chats may provide some of the mentorship that you feel is currently missing in your group.

Help! I have been so overwhelmed at home and at work that when I get to LWML for Bible study, I have a hard time focusing. I keep zoning out and have a hard time focusing on the Bible study. Do you know of anything to help me?
Thank you!
Hectic Hannah
Dear Hectic Hannah,
First I would recommend stopping, taking a breath, and going to the Lord in prayer. He can help you through all things even when life is frantic. Devotion and Bible study are definitely helpful tools as well when life gets overwhelming, but yes, sometimes it’s hard to focus when life has been difficult. I would recommend looking into visual faith practices in addition to other resources as coloring for a calming activity. www.lwml.org/coloring-resources has many resources to choose from that may be helpful.

Help! The woman in our church who led the Bible studies for my local group is stuck at home with an injury and now I need to facilitate the Bible study! Do you have any resources to help me with this?
Thank you,
Frantic Franny
Dear Frantic Franny,
I’m very sorry to hear about your group member’s injury. The very first thing I do when presented with an issue that feels overwhelming is take it to the Lord in prayer. He will guide you where you need to go.
The LWML website has many Bible studies and other resources for you. www.lwml.org/all-spiritual-growth has multiple resources for both short and multi-session Bible studies as well as devotions. You can also search for Bible studies or devotions on a specific topic in the search bar in the right upper hand corner of the website.

Our group is very interested in adding a monthly service project to our programming. I am having trouble coming up with ideas. Does the LWML have any resources to help me?
Thank you,
Servant Sally
Dear Servant Sally,
Thank you for your group’s commitment to helping those in need! It is a wonderful goal to give back and spread the Word — whether in your community or globally.
You can find anew mission service activity every month at https://www.lwml.org/mission-service-activities. This resource includes the details of the servant activity and how to go about arranging it. It also includes a devotion, prayer, and Gospel focus to guide and focus your group.

We have a great pastor at our church. Our LWML group wants to support and thank him as well as engage him with our group. What resources are available for something like this?
Thankful Thelma
Dear Thankful Thelma,
What a blessing it is for you to have a pastor at your church you appreciate and value! The LWML has several
resources for you. The Pastor Support and Involvement page on the website has a variety of lists to get you started. Towards the bottom of the page, you can find a list of ways to get your pastor involved in the various levels of LWML. Be sure to invite him to your local events so he feels welcome in the LWML.
Pastor Appreciation Month is coming up in October. The page mentioned above also has many ideas to help you support your pastor. Take the time to think about what would be special for him. Prayers and words of encouragement and thankfulness are always appreciated.

I’m new to LWML, and the ladies in my group throw around all these terms like “Quarterly,” “rally,” “YWR,” and “Gifts of Love.” I don’t know what they mean, and I don’t want to ask for their meanings all the time. How can I learn these terms?
Curious but Confused Caroline
Dear Curious but Confused Caroline,
Welcome to LWML! I know you will find forever friends here. All the different terms in a new-to-you organization can be confusing and overwhelming. I have three suggestions for you. First, find a woman in your group that you feel comfortable with and you can talk to freely. This woman can be your go-to person when you find yourself in a situation in which you need to know the meaning of a word right away. More than likely, you will have found a new lifelong friend in this helpful woman!
Second, check out theLWML Glossary on the LWML website. This resource has definitions for all your LWML terminology questions. Take the time to learn these terms to give you an extra boost of confidence at your next group meeting.
And, last but very important, please do speak up. It’s helpful to long-term members to understand that they need to talk in terms that everyone can understand. I’m sure they are so happy you are part of their group and want you, and other newcomers, to feel welcome and comfortable.
May God guide you in your endeavors! Lucy Leader

Help! I was nominated to be my zone’s recording secretary. I’ve been my group’s recording secretary for some time, but I’m unsure whether I may include too much or too little or if I leave out something I should really be including. If I’m elected, I want to write the minutes properly. Can you give me a definitive list of what should be included in meeting minutes?
Susie Secretary
Dear Susie Secretary,
Congratulations on being nominated! The position of recording secretary is a big responsibility, and the records you keep are very important.
