Twenty called church workers, each year during the biennium, will each receive a grant of $2,500 through MinistryFocus, an LCMS Recognized Service Organization (RSO), to assist in repayment of educational loans accrued in preparing for service to the Lord through the church. Repayment of educational debt is often made more difficult by the very modest salaries of church workers. This problem may affect recruitment, performance, and retention of church workers.

WHEREAS, For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, (Eph. 2:8), So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. (Romans 10:17), and hearing requires proclamation; and
WHEREAS, The proclamation of many called workers of the LCMS are inhibited by a mismatch of burdensome educational debt with low levels of income; and
WHEREAS, The potential of long-standing debt may also negatively impact recruitment and retention of called workers; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the delegates gathered at the 2017 Lutheran Womenโs Missionary League Convention in Albuquerque, New Mexico, vote the sum of $100,000 to help fund Education Loan Repayment Assistance Grants.
